See the Writing on the Wall

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

If you’re looking for an economical way to create an impactful sign or design, look no further than the writing on the wall.  Your wall, that is.  Using wall covering media for signage is a great way to utilize a large wall space, as well as save on signage materials.  Your wall can feature lettering for slogans, logos, banners or even murals that communicate your message in giant, living color.

We’ve been using a new wall covering by DreamScape called Terralon, as have many sign companies in Baltimore.  It’s specifically formulated for digital printing, and not only does it perform well, it’s earth-friendly too.  Terralon can handle regular solvent, eco solvent and UV curable inks.  Its polyester fiber technology contains more than 30 percent recycled material, but it looks like a regular commercial grade wall covering.  It can be installed using standard pastes and primers, and the lightly embossed textured surface allows for excellent images.  It comes in a variety of textures, including silk, suede, canvas, cashmere and plaster.

Terralon is functional and sustainable, with a PVC-free formula, a recyclable product and a low VOP emission. By using the product, companies can earn U.S. Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credit points for new buildings or remodels.  When you’re finished with your Terralon wall covering, it can be returned to DreamScape for recycling.  Ask your custom sign company for a sample of Terralon and see how you can use it to create signage for your business in the Baltimore area.

Wall Spiders New Super Heroes of Signage

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Like Spiderman, wall spiders are nimble and flexible, scaling your wall with the greatest of ease. You’ve seen these custom signs in Maryland -- they may be life-sized graphics or photos, or curvy lettering snaking around corners. They are versatile and easy to manage. The newest materials allow them to be used to decorate just about any surface in your home or office. They even work on cars - and are great for trade show signage

From enlarged photos for life-sized images of sports figures, action heroes and animals to creative graphics that beg to be admired, wall spiders give you the flexibility and versatility you need for just about any surface. The fabric-like material can be used on uneven surfaces, and it can be maneuvered easily. It can be wrapped around corners and poles or under doors and window sills.

Baltimore sign companies like Blue Water Signs are using Photo Tex wall spiders, because they feature a flexible material that feels like fabric, with a peel and stick backing. The special adhesive allows it to be removed easily and reused, no matter how long it’s been in place, and it doesn’t leave a sticky residue on surfaces. It doesn’t rip or wrinkle, making large wall spiders easier to apply as one complete sheet.

Ask your custom sign company about the ink source, which can affect the longevity of the product. Liquid lamination may also be recommended for certain solvent inks. The Photo Tex material doesn’t shrink or curl in extreme temperature changes, so your Maryland outdoor signage made from Photo Tex can take you through at least a year or two of local weather changes. Then, when the next sports figure or action hero breaks through, you can change your graphics, too!

Wall Spiders

Have you heard about wall spiders? It’s not an infestation of multi-legged creatures. It’s a removable wall graphic made with a new material called Photo Tex. We’ve been working with this custom graphics material for years, and we’re seeing exciting results.

Photo Tex feels like a fabric, and it removes easily from any surface without leaving a residue. It doesn’t rip or wrinkle during application, and it can be used both indoors and outdoors. We think it will be ideal for sponsorship signage in sporting arenas or at trade shows because it can be used repeatedly and repositioned easily, without weakening the adhesive. The material is so flexible it can even wrap around wall corners or poles. This characteristic makes it great for vehicle signage, as well.

Cost-effective and versatile, Photo Tex can be used with pigment/water base/UV ink as well as solvent-based/latex UV inks. The possibilities are endless for your Harford and Cecil County signage needs.

Wall Graphics - Wall Spiders - Having Fun with the Walls

Thursday, January 27, 2011

In the recent past, there have been a number of national brands of wall graphics and clings that were advertised with sports stars and other national figures. Wall graphics can be manufactured with any number of new materials that have come onto the market in the last couple of years. Their main purpose is to be placed on the wall and later easily removed without damage to the paint or wall covering, and then later to be used again. At Blue Water Signs, we named these items "Wall Spiders." We are currently using two different materials, but our stand by has been Photo Tex. This material is a fabric based material that uses a very good adhesive system that allows repositioning a very large number of times.

Attached, we show some pictures of wall spiders. The one we had the most fun with was the family whose son had gone away to school, and when the weather got colder, they did not like to see the son's door closed all the time. They knew it would save money to keep the door closed when heating the house. We took pictures with the door open, and then we took the measurements of the door, including the location of the knob, and printed a cover for the door. It was easy to install and now when you walk by, you are not staring at a blank closed door. They really enjoyed the reaction of their son when he returned home from school!

Wall graphics are great for around the business for capturing inspirational quotes, temporary signage, logo positioning in conference rooms, or a way to greet that special person with something different than a vinyl banner. Other uses around the company are laptop skins, window signs and other marketing items that can be placed on surfaces without the fear of damaging the surface when they are removed. For families, they are great to show off sport action pictures of the kids or other relatives. Maybe the favorite pet, holiday decorations or just fun!
